  • 2-3 black tea bags (or green tea, if you prefer a milder flavor, or orange pekoe for a citrus twist)

  • 4-5 fresh passion fruits, or 1/2 cup of concentrated juice/pulp

  • 2-4 tablespoons of sugar, honey, or simple syrup (adjust to taste)

  • Plenty of ice

  • Optional for garnish: Fresh mint leaves, orange or lime slices.

Step-by-Step Instructions

 

  1. Brew the Tea:

    • Bring the liter of water to a boil.

    • Pour the boiling water into a pitcher or heat-proof container.

    • Add the tea bags and let them steep for 3 to 5 minutes. Steeping longer may result in a bitter taste.

    • Remove the tea bags.

  2. Cool:

    • Allow the tea to cool to room temperature.

    • Once lukewarm, refrigerate it for at least 1-2 hours until thoroughly chilled. Alternatively, you can skip this step and use more ice in the next step.

  3. Add Passion Fruit and Sweeten:

    • If using fresh fruit, slice the passion fruits in half and scoop out the pulp and seeds with a spoon.

    • Add the passion fruit pulp (or concentrated juice) and the sweetener (sugar, honey, or syrup) to the chilled tea.

    • Stir well until the sweetener is completely dissolved. Taste and adjust the sweetness as needed.

  4. Serve:

    • Serve the iced tea in tall glasses filled with ice cubes.

    • Stir before pouring, as the passion fruit seeds tend to settle at the bottom.

    • Garnish each glass with mint leaves or a slice of citrus, if desired.
